In 2024 we ran a week of summer sailing and were delighted to see so many new faces at the club enjoying learning about sailing. Off the back of this interest we ran after school sailing lessons and need to thank Mrs Turner, an RYA senior instructor, who many the young people know from Rothesay Primary. We aim to build on this and are happy for more young people interested in sailing to come along.
Safety boat and safety equipment Sadly our youth sailing had to end prematurely last season due to the mechanical issues with safety boat provision. We are looking into all the different options available to us so that we can start our 2025 sailing season with all the necessary safety provisions and that our youth sailing can continue to grow from the success we have seen over 2023 and 2024
Rothesay Academy IBSC has been working in partnership with the academy in 2023 and 2024 providing facilities and equipment for sailing as part of the school curriculum. The school has invested in training their staff in sailing and safety boat qualifications as well as water specific first aid training. Pupils who otherwise would not normally have experience to sailing have taken part in 12 week instruction and their growth in confidence matching their smiles shows the importance of experiences like this for young people. We hope to continue these activities in 2025 and look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Rothesay Academy and Argyll and Bute Council.
